YESSSS omg I was really hoping to see a historical fiction list for this because most of the books on the original list that was floating around were not my type.

One book that comes to mind off the top of my head is Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran, which I believe was marketed as a YA... idk if it would count as a spoiler if I said who the gay character is in that one, but it is a major character. I will think about it and see if I can remember more books...
